2009 News Updates Nov. 4:

Good morning from Northwest Video Workshop!

Things are starting to get going here as the computers and cameras are scheduled to arrive today!  We have the conference rooms reserved, materials to print out, equipment to set up and food to pick up in the next two very busy days.  Keep up to date with our progress by checking out the live blog at nwvideoworkshop.com/category/blog.  We plan to cover the workshop live online as well.

If you haven’t gone to the site nwvideoworkshop.org in a while, remember to check out the rough itinerary.  It should help you plan out what you will be doing and what questions you will have for the trainers.

Are you packed up and ready to go?  Well don’t forget to consider bringing along a few things.
- Warm comfortable clothes
- Headphones or earbuds, (and if you have extra compact flash cards as well)
- If you have unique Canon lenses that you would like to try/use with the 5D MarkII or 7Ds bring them.

Thanks to everyone who has taken care of their registration fee in advance. We’ve been purchasing supplies and making sure everything is ready to go so your support has helped us get this workshop rolling.  For everyone who hasn’t, please let Donean Brown know if you will be paying when you get here so we can accurately plan for how much food we need to be ordering.  A few of you have already let us know, but if you could please reply to this e-mail or call Donean at 509-577-7697 so we can be sure everything is squared away.

Don’t forget that we will be putting on a special sports break-out session on Friday night. The group will head out to a local prep football game Friday Nov. 6 around 7:30 p.m.  All workshop registrants are welcome to attend this session, but please give TJ advance notice of your interest.  Also, if you are in the intermediate session, arrive at least an hour early for this session so equipment can be checked out to you to participate.

Don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any last minute questions.   The trainers and staff of the Yakima Herald-Republic is looking forward to seeing all of you on your arrival!

News Updates Oct. 28:

I have a few workshop updates and a few to-do list things to be checked off before coming.

Leading off: Workshop times.
Advanced group — Friday Nov. 6, 8:30 – 9 a.m.
Intermediate group — Saturday Nov. 7, 9:30 – 10 a.m.
Workshop conclusion — 4 p.m. Sunday Nov. 8, with ‘awards’ ceremony and Canon G10 giveaway. If you have questions please reply to this e-mail.

Second: please make sure to contact Donean Brown (509-577-7697) and pay your registration fee because it will be going toward the food and supplies that will be on hand for the workshop. We would appreciate if you could pay by this Friday, but if there are special circumstances, please notify Donean or reply to this e-mail.  The cost is $100 and NPPA members get a 10% discount.

Third: Itinerary and special sports break-out session planned.  The itinerary has been getting massaged over the past two weeks and a rough version will be on the site by Friday, Oct. 30.  It will also include a special sports shooting break-out session held at a prep football game Friday Nov. 6 around 7:30 p.m.  All workshop registrants are welcome to attend this session, but please give TJ advance notice of your interest.

Fourth and final for today…
Travel, hotel and personal gear.  If you have any questions about getting to the workshop or about your stay, don’t hesitate to reply to this e-mail.   As for personal gear; we have cameras coming for registrants and computers assigned for the advanced group.  The intermediate group will have a few computers to use as well.  You are welcome to bring your personal gear however the workshop and the Yakima Herald-Republic are not liable if something happens to it while you are here.

This is going to be a fun and intense learning environment for everyone, so bring your enthusiasm, energy and ideas to the workshop.  We are looking forward to seeing you!

News Updates Oct. 21:

Things have been moving along pretty fast lately and we are gearing up to go here in Yakima.
All of the trainers, cameras, computers and facilities are scheduled and will be ready to go when you arrive.

Canon will be giving away a G10 at the conclusion of the workshop to registrants. Beyond their support of bringing three different types of camera styles to train on (Vixia handheld, HV-A1, and DSLR 5D Mark II) they are also hoping to bring a few 7Ds for students.

Workshop NEED TO KNOW:
- For everyone who has applied for the advanced session; notices will go out on Friday as to who made the cut.
- Paying for the workshop: Like in the past, we will take payments of $100 to Donean Brown at 509-577-7697 (updated). Receipts will be available at the workshop. Remember that NPPA members get a 10% discount.
- Several hotels are within walking distance of the workshop site and the Fairfield Inn & Suites has special rate on a block of rooms held for workshop attendees (call 509-452-3100).
- If you are looking for room stay help or would like to split a room with other attendees, let us know by replying to this e-mail. Another option would be to invite a coworker along for the intermediate session and split the room costs.
- Getting here. There’s a map included on the Hotels & Maps page. If you have further questions about travel arrangements just let us know.
- Plan for colder weather. Everyone will be getting out and about to work with the equipment so pack accordingly. One note about clothes and audio, it’s better to wear softer, quiet coats, pants and shoes when recording audio.
- Bring previous examples. There may be opportunities to get feedback about your previous work with video or audio when talking with trainers so have the Web links or media handy.
